Scope of Meteorology
Meteorology is a branch of science which deals with the methodical study of the atmosphere and the effects it bears on the day-to-day activities of the inhabitants. The scope of this particular subject has increased to a great extent because of the alarming and dangerous enhancements in the pollution levels. The effects that the increased pollution has on us are leading to the far reaching ill effects and spread of a large number of ailments and diseases.
The aggravation in the environmental hazards such as global warming, forest cover reduction, erosion etc has provided this subject the importance it didn’t enjoy in the past. The study of meteorology comes under the study of earth sciences that is taught at a number of technical institutes and also in various universities of the country. Some of the prominent institutes which provide several courses in the field of meteorology in various levels of academics are Indian Institute of Science, Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, and so on.
Importance of Meteorology
Most of the industrial, social, agricultural and commercial activities of the economy are directly or indirectly affected by the weather and climate. Also the atmosphere influences and upholds all living organisms including human life, micro- organisms, animals, pests, insects, plants and marine culture at all times. Meteorology has therefore the greatest scope on every single activity of life. Some of the fields of applications of the enhanced field of science are safe navigation, safe aviation, fisheries, land use planning, commerce and so on.
