Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar HP Krishi Vishvavidyalaya was previously called as HP Agricultural University or HP Krishi Visvavidyalaya and it was established in the year 1978 on the 1st of November. The Agriculture College, which was formed in the year 1966 formed the base for creation of this university and it is an ISO 9001:2008 qualified institution. The university was given the responsibilities of imparting education in the field of agriculture and related fields, undertaking extension of allied fields, prosecution of research and advancement of learning, particularly to the rural people belonging to the state of HP. Over these years of its existence, the university has donated notably in improving the farm scenario of the state and because of this university, the state has attained popularity for hill agricultural more advanced. The university is currently managing four constituent colleges and a total of 13 departments when combining all these college departments. The names of constituent colleges are as follows:

Presently, the university is offering five different UG courses, 30 PG courses and 17 doctoral Courses. The university holds the pride of introducing 134 improved variety of different crops. It is located at Palampur at a height of 1250 metres near Pathankot railhead. The main campus of the university is well-connected from all important places not only by rail, but also by air and road ways. The university’s mission includes ensuring wider recognition of university in mountain and hill agricultural education; to provide access to skill and knowledge in mountain and hill agriculture and to create a knowledgeable society in the same field. The university is making every effort to improve agricultural production in the state of HP.
