The Civil Services Examination is considered to be an eminent examination in India. It helps a person to clear his way to the bureaucratic lobbies. There is ample scope for a person to become IAS, IFS, and IPS etc. The exam is usually conducted in two subsequent phases- prelims and main exam. There are a few compulsory subjects. However, Chemistry is not one of them. There are two papers for the subject and the syllabus is divided accordingly. Those having a graduate major in chemistry usually opt for it. However, it is not mandatory to have a academic background in the subject. However, a thorough and deep knowledge of the subject is required to clear this exam successfully. Various Institutes located in Delhi and other states also have a useful repertoire of question papers and question banks.

You can check the past years exam question papers in order to get an in-depth idea of the nature of questions and allotment of marks for each. The question paper for the optional subject carries 200 marks. The Chemistry Paper one syllabus usually comprises of topics or contents like atomic structure, chemical bonding, the three states of matter, thermodynamics, electro-chemistry and chemical kinetics etc.
