Dairy farming deals with rearing and domesticating animals like cows, goats, buffaloes, etc for procuring milk and milk products. Dairy technology can be considered as a link that connects both dairy industry and dairy sector. Candidates applying for the Post graduate course in Dairy Technology should have completed their B.Tech or B.Sc. in the concerned subjects with an aggregate of 50% marks. The aspirants should have passed the qualifying examination from a recognized University.

Students are required to appear for the National level GATE entrance test in order to apply for the M.Tech programmes in Dairy Technology. Master of Technology and Master of Science courses are of two year duration. There are many reputed institutes like Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur) and Dairy Science Colleges at Karnal and Anand which provide courses in these areas.

The candidates who have completed the programme can seek for jobs in milk and milk products manufacturing industries, dairy farms, rural banks, Dairy Engineers, etc. Candidates who have deep knowledge in the field can even work as consultants or start their own business. Teaching is another mind-warming career that they can opt for. Those who are interested in research can opt for the research areas like Defence research and development organization. The candidates after getting into career can expect good remuneration.

The scale of pay for these officials will be based on their potential and the prior work experience they had in the concerned field. Anand Milk Union Ltd (AMUL), MILMA, Hindustan Unilever, Nestle, etc are leading milk and milk products manufacturing industries in India.
