Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University shortly called as Darbhanga University was formed in the year 1961. The university is maintaining an exceptional collection of rare manuscripts on tantra, agama, dharmashastra, vyakarana, philosophy, epics, etc…and it is maintaining a collection nearly 5562 illustrated manuscripts on durga saptasati, srimadbhagavatha, Gitagovinda, Ramayana, etc… The university has so far documented two thousand manuscripts including 206 private collections and 49 institutions in 13 districts of the state of Bihar. The jurisdiction of the university is spread over the entire state of Bihar and it offers courses at post graduation, graduation and intermediate level and is conducting research work as well. The postgraduate department of the university deals with Sahitya, Jyotish, Darshana, Dharma Shastra, Vyakarna and Veda. In addition to accreditation from UGC, the university is also approved by National Council for Teacher Education and National Assessment and Accreditation Council and it is also acting as a member of Association of Indian Universities. The university is first of its kind and it was set up with the help of the aid provided Government of Bihar. The university is offering courses like BAMS, diploma in literature, Doctoral course called as vidyavaridhi, bachelor of library science, Master of arts called as Acharya and Bachelor of arts course called as Shastri. The university is located in the Kameshwar Nagram region in the state of Bihar and among the several facilities offered by the university, the library is regarded as a prestigious block since it preserves rare manuscripts belonging to older ages.
