• Patna University :- Patna University is the seventh oldest University in India and the first one in Bihar. It was established in the year 1917 and it is located on the banks of the river Ganges. This university touches all major fields of education and offers teaching as well as residential facility. • Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur :- In 1952 this university was separated from Patna University. The headquarters of the university still in Patna comes under the division of the University of Bihar.
• Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga:- This is one among the old Universities of Patna with good academic track record. In the year 1986 they got the recognition of UGC also.
• Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, Darbhanga:- Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University was established in the year 1961.They are providing graduate as well as post graduate courses. In addition to this research and intermediate courses are also conducted.

• Chanakya National Law University,Patna:-  This University was established under the Chanakya National Law University Act, 2006.They strive to provide hi-quality and comprehensive  legal education to their students. • Magadh University, Bodh Gaya:- Magadh University which was established in the year 1962, is the largest University of Bihar. Under this university there are 44 constituent and 105 affiliated colleges.
• Nalanda Open University, Patna:- The Nalanda Open University is the only University in Bihar who focuses on distance education. It is one among the oldest universities and was established in the year 1987.
