Educational Qualification & other requirements:

For the position of Junior Residents, candidates must have completed their MBBS degree and should also have completed their internship from an institution/university approved by the Medical Council of India.

The other requirement is that candidates must be registered with Medical Council in that particular state in which the Government organization calls for candidates for instance for the above-mentioned Delhi Government hospitals, candidates must be registered with Delhi Medical Council.

Age criteria:

For the position of Junior Residents, government hospitals in India look for candidates who are less than 30 years of age. In the case of SC/ST candidates a relaxation of 5 years and for OBC candidates a relaxation of 3 years is allowed.

What is the mode of selection?

Normally, selection of candidates for the post of Junior Residents is done through interview in most of the Government hospitals.

Job responsibilities for the position of Junior Resident:

As mentioned earlier, junior residents are responsible for taking care of im-patients in the hospital, they are also responsible for preparation of medical reports of patients, and they should assist the senior residents. In some hospitals, they are also given the responsibility of teaching and supervising medical students and communicating with the attending surgeon about the im-patients.

Scope of the position of Junior Residents:

Since most of the government organizations recruit fresh graduates for the position of Junior residents, it offers a wide scope of learning to them and they can be posted as senior residents in the future there by increasing their position and pay scale as well.
