The number of students opting for a language diploma course is not too many. This happened previously due to the lack of institutions offering such courses which is not the current scenario. Diploma in Marathi is one such diploma course which is rarely taken up by students but is offered in several universities and has a lot to offer. The structure of the course is designed in such a manner that the students get totally aware of the Marathi culture, history, mythology along with in detail study of the language.

The course mainly includes sociology of linguistics, literature, poetics and stylistics, advanced form of modern as well as classical theories of Marathi literature, medieval and modern literature of various types, Marathi translation for language like Dalit literature, Gaon Marathi Literature, Indian literature, culture, mythology, aesthetics, drama and theatre, comparative literature and folk literature. The students are required to submit projects, give seminars, write articles and assignments which ultimately pave way for the better understanding of the subject and attain dexterity in the same.

Eligibility Criteria

Students having attained the age of 22 years are eligible to apply for this course. The completion of Bachelor’s degree course is a criterion before you join the institute to continue with this course. So students who have passed out or are appearing for their final year are eligible to apply. A minimum score of 55% in aggregate from a reputed university in a known stream is a must in order to apply for the course.

Course Outlook

It is a two semester course in general. In certain universities the duration can increase up to 2 years for non regular students. There are many institutes that offer distance learning programs for the same.

Job Prospect

A minimum score of 50% in both the semesters makes you eligible for sitting in a job interview. The main target jobs of the students is either in the teaching profession where one can get positions of readers, professors and lecturers and the media where one can be easily recruited as a correspondent in news papers and channels. Exams like UGC/NET can also be opted for.
