Chemistry is said to be the physical science that involves the study of diverse range of matters like atoms, molecules, crystals and several other group of matters, either in isolated state or in combination. It also includes various concepts about energy and entropy which are associated with the spontaneity of chemical reactions.

Those working in this field are usually called as chemists. These people study the numerous compositions of matters and its related properties. Usually most of the chemists specialize in more than one area depending on the specialization they have chosen. A course in chemistry is very useful in various aspects and it offers plenty of career opportunities.

B.Sc Chemistry is the undergraduate degree awarded to the students by many universities and institutions. This three year programme helps the students to gain several skills in this area which include the laboratory skills, solve the problem in an analytical and logical way, time management skills, etc. Some of the specialized fields in Chemistry are

  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Materials Chemistry
  • Nuclear Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Theoretical Chemistry

After the successful completion of B.Sc Chemistry, students can either opt for advanced studies or search for jobs in the related fields. There are plenty of opportunities which exist for the chemists in the present scenario. Almost every field in the world use chemicals as a part in some or other ways. So the need for chemists also is in high demand.

  • M.Sc. Chemistry
  • M.Sc. Analytical Chemistry
  • M.Sc. Drug Chemistry
  • M.Sc. Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry
  • M.Sc. Physical & Materials Chemistry
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Job Opportunities to pursue after B.Sc Chemistry

Most of the industries nowadays use the chemicals in everything directly or indirectly like in food products, pharmaceuticals, electronic products or in construction. This creates opportunities for the talented chemistry graduates, since they have the in-depth knowledge about various chemicals, compositions and their properties. The government laboratories, universities or colleges and the industries, mainly chemical and pharmaceutical, are the three major sectors which recruit the chemistry graduates. For the entry level jobs in these fields, graduates need at least a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. But for the senior positions like in research, they need PhD in the same. Other career choices for them lie in the oil, gas and power sectors.

Short Term Courses for B.Sc Chemistry Graduates

B.Sc Chemistry graduates can also go for the short term courses in the related field. Many short term courses offer them to get into a job easily. One of such courses that can be chosen after B.Sc Chemistry is Post-Graduate Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (PGDAC).
