Midnapore, which is also spelled as Midnapur and Medinipur is a town located in the state of West Bengal and it acts as the headquarters of the district of Paschim Medinipur. Initially, the city was the headquarters of the Midnapore District, which was the largest district not only in the state of West Bengal, but in the whole country as well. After that, when the district was partitioned into two the city came under the Paschim Medinipur district.

The city acts as the home for the popular Vidyasagar University and most of the colleges in east and west Midnapore are affiliated to this university. Medical Colleges:

Midnapore Medical College, Midnapore came into existence in the year 2001 and the college is offering medical education with affiliation from the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The institute is approved with an intake capacity of 100 students per year for the MBBS course offered for which admission is done based on the marks secured by the students in the Joint Entrance Examination conducted in the state of West Bengal and some seats are filled through AIPMT score as well. The college also offers Diploma in Medical Lab Technology with an intake capacity of 20 students per year and DNM course as well.

Midnapore Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, West Midnapore came into existence in the year 1943 and this college is also affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The approved intake capacity for the BHMS course offered by the college is 50 students per year.

Law College:

The history of Mindapore Law College dates back to 1834 and during this year, the college was established as a School. The college offers five-year integrated B.A-LL. B (honors) course and three-year LL. B with permanent affiliation from the Vidyasagar University. For seeking admission to the five-year integrated course candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination with not less than 45% of aggregate marks, which is 40% for SC/ST Students. For admission to the three-year course candidates must have completed their graduation with not less than 45% of marks (40% for SC/ST candidates).

Arts & Science Colleges:

Haldia Government College came into existence in the year 1988 and it offers education with affiliation from the Vidyasagar University. The college offers UG course in Arts and Science stream in subjects like statistics, physics, geography, chemistry, anthropology, English, education, Bengali, Sociology and Economics.

Midnapore College came into existence in the year 1834 and it offers arts and science courses in both general and honors disciplines. Some of the subjects covered under honors stream are electronics, microbiology, computer science, geography, sociology, Sanskrit, political science, etc… Some of the subjects covered under general course are physical education, political science, philosophy, etc…
