The corporation actually came into existence under the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948. The corporation mainly works in the field of protection of the interest of workers in terms of medical problems for some kind of loss in wages. The scheme was implemented in the year 1952 under the Government of India. The administrative setup of the ESIC, Chennai is comprises of four sub regional centres located at Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem and Tirunelveli.
