The full name of Nellore District is Sri Amarajeevi Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore District and it is one among the 23 districts of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The district is popular for high paddy fields and since the term ‘Nelli’ stands for Paddy crops the district was given this name. The administrative headquarters of the district is the city of Nellore and the district also has other major cities like Gudur and Kavali.

The district is bordered by the Prakasam district to the north, Kadapa to the west, Chittoor district of the state of Tamil Nadu and the Bay of Bengal to the east. Previously, the name of the district was just Nellore District and in only from the year 2008, the government of Andhra Pradesh officially renamed the district as Amarajeevi Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore District in honor of the freedom fighter, who belonged to this district.
