Secretary is a person, who works with a senior level person in an organization and a candidate appointed for this position basically work as an aide for the official to whom he/she is attached with. Secretary is a support position for the administrative and office functions and there has never been a dearth of secretarial jobs in the nation. Even candidates, along with their degree course or during their school education can also take up typewriting and shorthand training through private institutions specially meant for offering training on these courses with approval from Directorate of Technical Education.

Career in secretaryship:

Secretarial work is no way limited to some specific areas and the nature of the work of these candidates differ from one organizations to another and from one boss to another. If a candidate has been appointed for the post of secretary to DGM/AGM in a particular organization, he/she will have to develop a clear idea about the nature of business of the organization for which they are appointed. Candidates appointed for the post of secretary are called by different position names like Executive Secretary/Private Secretary/Personal Assistant.

Even though private organizations looking for candidates with typing and shorthand skills are reducing these days due to advancement of technology, many government organizations are still recruiting candidates with knowledge in typewriting and shorthand for the position of secretary. Particularly, most of the state government organizations look for candidates with typing and shorthand skills in the local language for the position of secretary to higher cadre officers in their organizations.
