Neurosurgery Department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences began its journey in the year 1965 on the month of March, the department began its journey just with a few beds and two faculty members, and now it has grown into a big department offering PG and even Ph. D course in neurosurgery. In the past 40 years, the department has trained over 100 neurosurgeons and the training offered by this department of AIIMS is regarded as the best in the nation according to the evaluation of Independent Evaluation System.
Courses and training offered by the Neurosurgery Department:
Neurosurgery Department of AIIMS offers M. Ch course in Neurosurgery and this course is offered both as three-year course and as six-year course. Three-year course is meant for candidates with MS in General Surgery, while six-year course is meant for candidates with MBBS qualification. In addition to these courses, Ph. D course is also offered by the department and the maximum course duration for Ph. D in Neurosurgery is five years before which candidates will have to submit their thesis.
Admission procedure for Ph. D in Neurosurgery course:
For getting admission to the Ph. D course in Neurosurgery, candidates must get through the Ph. D Entrance Examination conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and this examination is conducted by AIIMS two times a year. Admission to Ph. D Course will be done purely on the basis of merit secured by candidates in this entrance examination and in the qualifying examination of a PG degree in Neurosurgery.

Neurosurgeons are in great demand these days and candidates with specialization in this field of medicine are needed not only in India, but also in foreign countries as well.
