The National Law School of India University shortly called as NLSIU came into existence in the year 1987 and as the name implies it a national university meant for law education in the nation operating from the city of Bangalore in the Indian state of Karnataka. This law school holds the pride of having earned consistent ranks among the law schools in the nation and the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University located in the city of Hyderabad is the closest competitor of the university in this respect.

The university was established through the statute of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Karnataka. The School officially came into being on the 29th of August 1987 and the Chief Justice of the nation acts as the Chancellor of the university. The university’s Chief Administrator is acting as its Vice-Chancellor.

National Law School of India University offers law education at the UG, PG and Ph. D level and in addition to offering regular courses, the university also offers legal education courses under distance education mode. Admission tests:

The M. Phil course offered by the National Law School of India University extends to a period of one year and the maximum period allowed for completion of the course is three years. Admission to this course is done on the basis of merit secured by candidates in admission test conducted by the university and this test will have two papers namely Research Methodology and Research Proposal Specific Paper. Admissions to UG and PG courses offered by the university is done on the basis of merit secured by candidates in the CLAT Test.
