Eligibility criteria to appear for NIFT Entrance Exam

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts a common entrance examination for admission to B.Des, B.F Tech, M.Des, M. F Tech or M.F.M course. Eligibility criteria will differ according to the course selected for admission.

If the candidates select an undergraduate course, then they should pass the final examination of higher secondary or equivalent course before applying for the entrance examination. Bachelor’s degree in relevant stream is the minimum educational qualification required to apply for the entrance examination conducted for Master level courses.

Eligibility requirements in detail

Bachelor of Design - To apply for the entrance examination conducted for Bachelor of Design course, one should pass either senior secondary or equivalent examination from any recognized Board/University. Those who have passed General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination of London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka at Advanced (A) level are also eligible to apply for this exam. Diploma holders can apply only if they have obtained their diploma from any institutes approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education. Upper age limit specified to apply for this entrance examination is 23 years.

Bachelor of Fashion Technology - Aspirants who are applying for entrance examination conducted for Bachelor of Fashion Technology should pass their senior secondary or equivalent examination withy Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The concerned qualifying examination should be carried out by a recognized Board or University.  If this is not the case, then they have to pass General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination of London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Also, they should obtain Advanced (A) level score in this exam. Those who have obtained diploma from any institute recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education can also apply for this entrance examination. The age of the candidates should not surpass 23 years while applying for this entrance examination.

Master of Design - Candidates having any of the following undergraduate degree can apply for the entrance examination for Master of Design course.

  • Bachelor in Applied Arts (Visual Communication/Product Design/Interior Design/Fashion Design/Graphic Design/Multimedia Design/Industrial Design/Textile and Accessories)
  • Bachelor of Science in Textiles and Clothing
  • Bachelor of Architecture
  • Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts

Those who have obtained diploma or degree in Design from NIFT/NID can also apply for this exam. If the candidates possess a Bachelor’s degree in other disciplines, then it should be obtained from any recognized University. Such candidates should also undergo minimum of 2 months training before applying for the exam.

Master of Fashion Technology - If the candidates want to apply for the entrance examination conducted for Master of Fashion Technology, then they should possess B.E/B.Tech in any of the following disciplines

  • Apparel
  • Computer Science
  • Electronics
  • Industrial Production
  • Information Technology
  • Mechanical
  • Textiles

The concerned engineering degree should be obtained from an institute approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

Master of Fashion Management - Candidates can apply for the entrance examination conducted for Master of Fashion Management if they possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any stream. The concerned qualification should be approved by Association of Indian Universities. Aspirants who have completed Diploma in Accessory or Fashion Design from NIFT can also appear for the exam. Proper certification is compulsory for those who possess a foreign degree.
