Vacancies for the post of Assistant Public Provident Fund Commissioner in the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Ministry of Labour & Employment are filled by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The post is permanent in nature. The job profile includes looking after the work of Recovery, Pension, Enforcement, Accounts and Legal aspects related to provident fund. It includes administrative and statutory functions like settlement of claims, maintenance of Cash Book, general administration, conducting inquiry, Reconciliation of Bank Statement, MIS returns etc. Recruitment to the post is through a written test followed by an interview.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should be an Indian citizen or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan.

Aspirants seeking employment as Assistant Public Provident Fund Commissioners should be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized university or equivalent. The Commission specifies a Diploma in Company Law/ Labour Laws/ Public Administration as desirable for aspirants.

Candidates should not be more than 35 years of age at the time of applying. Relaxation of age upto 5 years is applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST category and upto 3 years for OBC candidates. Relaxation of age is also applicable for physically handicapped persons, Central Government employees, ex-servicemen, meritorious sports persons and for specific categories of women.

Application procedure

Notification concerning vacancies will be published in leading Dailies as well as in various web portals. Details regarding number of posts, vacancies available for candidates belonging to reservation categories etc will be included in the notification.

Candidates are required to apply online in the Online Recruitment Application (ORA) website http://www.upsconline.nic.in. Relevant information should be provided by the candidate in the ORA system as instructed.

Application fee is Rs 25 for general category candidates. The fee has to be remitted in any branches of SBI. There is no fee exemption for OBC male candidates. Candidates belonging to the other reservation categories are exempted from paying the fee.

Applications from candidates fulfilling the specified eligibility criteria will be processed and eligible candidates will have to appear for the written examination. The examination date and centre will be intimated by UPSC. The examination pattern is as follows:

  • The written examination is objective in nature and contains multiple choice questions.
  • The recruitment test will be for two hours.
  • The test carries a maximum of 100 marks.
  • There will be a deduction of 1/3 of the allotted marks for marking incorrect answer.
  • Candidates can choose English or Hindi as the medium of examination.

The examination contains two broad sections:

General Studies: Questions on broad areas like Indian Culture, Development and Globalization, Current Events, Population, Heritage and Freedom Movements, Trends in Indian Economy, Governance and Constitution of India, Industrial Relations & Labour Laws, Accountancy and Auditing, General Mental Abilities, Basic Knowledge of Computer Applications, Insurance, Elementary Maths & Statistics, General Science etc will be asked in this section.

General English: Questions in this section will test a candidate’s proficiency in English.

Candidates who qualify for the written examination will have to attend an interview. Weightage of the recruitment test and the interview will be decided by the commission. Selected candidates are required to undergo a period of probation.

The pay scale for the post of Assistant Public Provident Fund Commissioner is Rs 15,600-39,100 per month. The grade pay is Rs 5,400 per month. The approximate total emolument per month is Rs. 34, 650/
