Master Degree holders in Fine Arts as well as allied subjects are eligible to apply for P.hD programme in Fine Arts. Minimum marks required for qualification is 55%. Admission to the course is carried out on the basis of entrance exam and personal interview conducted by the institute.


Eligibility Criterion for Ph.D in Fine Arts

Candidates who have completed Post Graduation in Fine Arts of related subjects from a recognized University are eligible to apply to this course. They should have obtained at least 55% marks (in aggregate) in qualifying examination. Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe candidates are required to score at least 50% marks. There is no upper age limit for this course. Admission to the course is based on the scores obtained in entrance exam conducted by the university. Final selection will be based on the composite scores obtained in academics, written test and final interview.

Exam Pattern of the Entrance Test

The question booklet will contain two papers. Medium of instructions will be in English Language only. Paper I will contain objective type multiple choice questions. There will be a maximum of 50 questions in this section. Each question carries one mark. Maximum time allotted for answering all these questions is one hour. There will be no negative marking for wrong answer. Maximum marks allotted for Paper I is 50.
Paper II will contain subjective or descriptive type questions. Questions will be asked from the topics prescribed for Post Graduate Programme. There will be a maximum of 10 questions in this section. Each question carries 10 marks. Of these, candidates have the choice to attempt any five questions. Maximum marks allotted for descriptive paper is 50. Candidates will be given a maximum of 2 hours to answer all questions. Candidates are advised to visit the official website of the Institute so as to obtain the detailed syllabus of entrance test.

Those who have qualified the entrance exam will be short listed for final interview as per their rankings. Such candidates will have to make a presentation about their proposed research area. There will be marks allocated for this presentation section too.

Candidates who have qualified any of the following examinations are exempted from entrance test.

  • UGC CSIR (JRF) Examination
  • Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineers
  • State Level Eligibility Test

Apart from this, those who are awarded Teacher Fellowship Degrees, by INSPIRE, ICMR or any other National level agencies need not write the entrance examination. Such candidates can apply for direct admission.
