what is the procedure to seek admission in post-graduate program in physics in the universities like Panjab university, J.N.U, B.H.U etc. Also I would like to know of the other ways which could lead to research career in theoretical physics.

Eligibility Requirements

B.Sc. (Hons.)/B.Sc. under at least 10+2+3 pattern securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in Science subjects (considering all the three years of B.Sc. Course). The subject in which admission is sought must be a Hons. subject at B.Sc. (Hons.) level/subject studied in all the three parts at Graduate level. However, for admission to M.Sc. in Botany/Zoology a candidate must also have offered Chemistry as one of the subjects at the Graduate level.

Mode of Admission

Admissions are made through an Entrance Examination Postgraduate Entrance Test (PET) generally conducted between May/June every year. Notification for the Entrance Examination will be generally released during February every year.


Also in answer to your second question, there are a lot of avenues open for research in theoretical Physics ..for example you can apply for Ph.d in any top notch foerign based institutes like MIT, PRINCETON etc.. where along with a rresearch grant you get a teaching post too. Or you can apply for Indian institutes like ISRO or BARC etc.
