Details on OCES/DGFS at BARC Training School
Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) often recruits candidates to the position of Scientific Officer through BARC training schools. Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Post Graduates (OCES) and DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme (DGFS) are two flagship programmes organized by BARC training school for recruiting eligible candidates to the position of ‘Scientific Officer’. Engineering graduates as well as post graduates in science are eligible for OCES where as candidates pursuing M.Tech. / M. Chem graduates can join to DGFS.
OCES at BARC Training School
OCES is one among the flagship programmes conducted by BARC training school for recruiting eligible candidates to the position of ‘Scientific Officer’. Engineering graduates as well as post graduates in science are eligible to apply. Selected candidates are appointed as ‘Trainee Scientific Officer (TSO)’ at entry level. They are offered with training to develop skills in research and development related to nuclear science and technology. The training is organized at any of the following training schools.
- BARC Training School at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam
- Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Hyderabad
- BARC Training School at Mumbai
- BARC Training School at Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad
- BARC Training School at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore
The course work is organized in three semesters, covering class room lecturers, practical training, and project work. Those who successfully complete the course with a minimum of 50% marks will be appointed as Scientific Officers ‘C’ in any of the DAE (Department of Atomic Energy) units.
DGFS at BARC Training School
This scheme is open for candidates pursuing M.Tech. / M. Chem courses in any of the selected institutes of national importance. The national institute selected for study must be one among the following.
- Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay
- Indian Institute of Technology -Delhi
- Indian Institute of Technology -Guwahati
- Indian Institute of Technology -Kanpur
- Indian Institute of Technology -Kharagpur
- Indian Institute of Technology-Madras
- Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee
- Indian Institute of Technology (BHU)-Varanasi
- National Institute of Technology-Rourkela
- Institute of Chemical Technology -Mumbai
Duration of the course work is one year. During this time duration, candidates are assigned with a project work and are supervised jointly by a DAE and a DGFS-institute guide. Those who complete M. Tech. / M. Chem course along with one year project work will be appointed at Scientific Officers in DAE. Such candidates should undergo a four month orientation program in any of the BARC training schools. Successful completion of the course allows them perform the job role of ‘Scientific Officer’ in the required fashion.
