The Gujarat State Eligibility Test or GSET is conducted by Maharaja Sahajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara on behalf of the Government of Gujarat for selecting eligible candidates for lectureship. There are three (objective model) papers for the test. Paper I includes questions on teaching /research aptitude where as the other two papers are based on the subject selected by the candidate.

Eligibility Criteria for GSET

Those having completed master’s degree or studying the final year of master’s degree from a recognized institute are eligible for GSET. This qualification must be obtained with a minimum of 55% marks. SC/ST candidates and Visually/Physically handicapped candidates need to hold a minimum of 50% marks only. Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing the final year of master’s degree can also appear for the test. Such candidates will be admitted provisionally and they must obtain their PG degree (with required percentage) with in two years of the date of SET examination. Those who have completed M.Sc (by Research) are not eligible to appear for SET. There is no upper age limit.

Exam Pattern for GSET

There will be three papers for the test, all comprising of objective model questions. Paper I is of general nature and include questions to access the teaching /research aptitude of the candidate. Questions related to general awareness, comprehension, reasoning ability, and divergent thinking will be asked. This paper includes 60 questions, out of which the candidate need to answer 50 questions only. Two marks are allotted for each correct answer to make a total of 100 marks. In Paper II, there will be 50 questions of compulsory nature. Each question carries 2 marks. Duration given for answering each of the papers, Paper I and Paper II, is 1 hour 15 minutes. Paper III includes 75 questions of compulsory nature. Each question carries 2 marks to make a total of 150 marks for Paper III. Candidates are requested to answer this paper within 2 and half hours. Visually handicapped candidates are given with extra time for answering the exam. Extra time of 30 minutes is given for Paper I and Paper II and 45 minutes for Paper III. There is no deduction in marks for wrong answers.

General category candidates need to obtain 40% marks in Paper I and Paper II and 50% marks in Paper III to qualify. In case of OBC/SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates, the cut off percentage required for Paper I and Paper II are 35. For Paper III, OBC candidates must hold a minimum of 45% marks and SC/ST/PH/VH must obtain a minimum of 40% marks.
