Animator - How to become an Animator?


Animation is the illusion of movement which is caused by the swift illustration of a series of 2-D or 3-D images. The artists who create these images are called as Animators.

The most basic quality required for an animator is style in creation. Animators can find employment in a variety of fields like video games, films, the internet etc.  They can also work in 2D animation or in the making of 3D model animation.  In addition to this, job opportunities in computerized animation are also available. There are also many fields of specialization available for the candidates. They are:

  • Special FX Creator
  • Animator
  • Character Designer
  • Games Designer
  • Interaction Designer.

There are many colleges in India and abroad which offers courses in animation. Details on how to become an animator are given below.

Qualifying exam

An entrance examination is conducted by the universities for the admission of students. Based on the mark scored in this exam, the students are selected for the courses.

Who is eligible to apply?

Candidates who are applying for the Diploma and Bachelors Degree courses in animation should be citizens of India. They must have completed their class 10+2 exam standard from any acknowledged Board or University.  It is required for the candidates to be atleast 18 years at the time of applying.

Those candidates who wish to become an Animator should have good knowledge in computer programming. They can go for courses like C++ or Java. The aspirants must also be creative. Candidates who are joining the Post Graduate program should have a Bachelors Degree in any discipline. A degree in Arts would be preferable.

How to prepare for exam and interview?

Candidates who are appearing for the animation written test must be aware of the latest techniques that are being used in the field of animation. They must furthermore have the basic skills in drawing. Candidates can also prepare for the examination by reading articles based on the subject. There might be tests in acting, visualization and clay modeling. The students can prepare for this by going for coaching classes.

    hi, i am anumey.i am currently in 10th grade. i’m 15 and i love doing animation! i have done animations in pivot stickfigure animator,macromedia flash and 3d studio max… and 1 or 2 stopmotion animations too… i would like to know what stream in 11th should i take to become a 3d animator or graphics designer? i have a great interest in programming too. i would also like to know what colleges are there in India for me to study animation or programming or game development? and what would be the salary i could have going into this field professionally?

    what are that creative tests that will be asked to an animator when he or she goes for a post of animator in an MNC?please reply me as soon as posibale.i m also an animator.
