Fishery science is the science of managing and understanding fisheries. It is a multi disciplinary science. The main subjects taught in fishery science include oceanography, marine conservation, ecology, population dynamics, economics, management, marine biology, bio-economics etc.
Eligibility:
In order to pursue a bachelor’s in fishery science, the candidate must have passed the higher secondary school certificate exam from any recognized board. The candidate should have biology, physics, and chemistry as a compulsory subject in the higher secondary schooling. The eligibility percentage for getting admitted to this course varies from institute to institute, the minimum being 50% aggregate in physics, chemistry and biology and a pass in the entire subject individually. The admission is merit based. Some universities take admission on the basis of entrance exams.
Course Outlook:
Bachelor’s in fishery science is an under graduation course. It is a three year full time course. The whole course is divided into 6 semesters of six month duration each. Each semester is followed by an exam which has to be passed by the candidate in order to get promoted to the next semester. More emphasis is given on practical training. In theory, the student is taught about the various techniques of fishing and the ways of managing fishery.
Job Prospects:
It is an in demand course because of the increasing fishery business on world wide scale. The candidate can get a work in aquaculture technology and industries based on fishing and development.
