Structure of Calicut University Ph.D Entrance Exam

This exam comprise of sixty five questions in two sections. Part A section comprise of fifty questions which are of objective type. Candidates should answer all the questions specified in this section by choosing one from four options. Each question in this section carries one mark and the candidate can score this one mark by answering correctly. Next section will be Part B which deals with fifteen subjective questions. From the fifteen questions given on the question paper candidate can choose questions to answer. Here it is not mandatory to answer all questions. Candidate should answer only ten questions. Here 5 marks can be scored by the candidates by giving correct answer.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have passed post graduation degree from University of Calicut with 55% marks are eligible to apply. SC/ST candidates need only to pass the post graduation for attaining eligibility.5% relaxation will be given for the teachers working in the colleges or teaching departments approved by the University of Calicut. Candidates who have M.Phil Degree recognized by University of Calicut or its equivalent need not attend the entrance examination. There will be also exception given for the candidates who have NET/JRF/SRF of UGC/CSIR qualification.

How to Apply?

Visit the website http://www.universityofcalicut.info .Then the application form available there should be downloaded. If the applicant is a resident of Kerala then application fee of Rs.500/- can be paid by challan obtained from the Treasury or State Bank of India. Send the application form after filling the same to the Head of the Department or Research Centre with the receipt of the chalan obtained after paying the fee. If the applicants are from outside Kerala then fee can be paid using Demand draft payable at State Bank of Travancore, Calicut University Branch. Demand Draft should be drawn in the name of Finance Officer, University of Calicut. Such applicants can also pay their fee through Money order. The facility for paying application fee is also available at “Janasevana Kendra”, University Information Centres and Pareeksha Bhavan.

How to fill the Form?

First of all try to read the brochure completely. Then start filling the application form. Application form has three parts of which first part should be filled by all candidates. The second part is for teachers and third part is specified for candidates having M.Phil/NET/JRF qualification. The applicant himself/herself should fill the form. Photograph attached by the applicant should be of passport size. Recent color photograph should be pasted by the candidates in the space specified. The application should be filled in capital letters. Applicant should be careful while entering name and date of birth. These should be similar to that in the SSLC or Degree certificate. Make sure to put signature on the form and fill all the columns on the form before sending.

Study Plan

Finding resource to study: Resources for studying such as textbooks and guides are easy to find now a days. There are so many publishers printing various books on same topics itself. Also students can browse on internet to find various study resources like e-books.

Determine a plan to study: A place without noisy environment should be selected for study. Mind can concentrate on studies in such a place. Various topics can be divided into small topics with time allocated to each of them.

Time Management: Student should analyze which topics are difficult and which are not. Giving more time to difficult topic can save time. Each day try to study different topics rather than same topic.

Practicing with question papers:  Students should collect as much as previous year question papers and question banks. Thus students can acquaint with different type of questions.

Frequent breaks should be taken: Continuous studying will give stress to mind. If students study with stressed minds they will not able to memorize the studied topics. So it is necessary to relax in between. Thus students can study better with a fresh mind.

Score Validity

Validity period of the score obtained from this Ph.D entrance exam will be twelve months.
