Chatra College is a constituent college of Vinoba Bhave University located in the city of Hazaribag in Jharkhand State. The college is located in the main town of Chatra at about 65 km from Hazaribag and about 165 km away from Ranchi, which is the capital city of Jharkhand. Initially, the college was affiliated to Ranchi University and after the separation of Vinoba Bhave University from Ranchi University; it was shifted under the later university.

Courses Offered:

Chatra College is offering degree courses through its arts, education, science, computer and commerce departments. Under the department of education, B. Ed course is offered by Chatra College and it is approved by NCTE. Science department offer degrees in physics, chemistry and mathematics and it is planning to introduce course in biology as well. The computer department of the college offers degree in bachelor of computer application.

IGNOU Study Centre:

In the year 2004, Indira Gandhi National Open University has established a study centre in the campus of Chatra College. Thousands of students are being benefited from this distance education study center functioning in the campus of Chatra College.

History of the college:

Chatra College was established in the year 1961 in the name of Geeta Aashram Mahavidhyalaya and it was renamed with its present name in the year 1963. During this year, the college got approval from Ranchi University for intermediate courses under the arts stream of education and for the degree courses, it got approval from Ranchi University in the year 1965. After this, in the year 1970, the University Grants Commission has approved the college.

Facilities:

Chatra College offers several facilities like playground, library, well-equipped laboratory for offering practical education to the students, separate examination center, separate building for BCA and B. Ed courses and separate hostel to accommodate girl students belonging to different states.
