Structure of the courses Offered in National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University

The B.A, LL.B programme is of five years duration where each year consists of two semesters. Thus there is a total of 10 semesters in the academic programme. It helps to create a strong foundation in legal studies.

The master’s programme in law is of two years duration which is further divided into four semesters. Here the candidates have to choose the area of specialization.

The M.Phil Course is of twelve months duration. Candidates those who have completed the post graduation in Law are eligible to pursue this course.

The candidate has to spend at least two years to complete the research. The maximum period of time that the candidate can spend for doing research is three years. The candidate has to complete and submit the work within the allotted time.

National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University Course Admissions

The admissions to the first year of the B.A, LL.B and LL.M degree programmes are made purely on the basis of merit. Candidates are admitted to the above courses according to the scores obtained in Common Law Admission Test. This examination is carried out at different centres across India. NLSIU-Bangalore, NALSAR-Hyderabad, NUJS-Kolkata, NLIU-Bhopal, NLU-Jodhpur, HNLU-Raipur and GNLU-Ahmedabad have come together to conduct Common Law Admission Test. The Common Law Admission Test is carried out by NLSIU-Bangalore, HNLU-Raipur, NLIU-Bhopal, NUJS-Kolkata, NALSAR-Hyderabad, NLU-Jodhpur and GNLU-Ahmedabad

Candidates those who possess a LL.M degree from any of the recognized universities with a minimum of 55% marks or a grade which is not less than B+ are eligible to appear for the M.Phil entrance examination that is conducted by the NALSAR.

The admission to the doctoral programme is done by conducting a written test. Candidates those who hold UGC NET / JRF, SLET, and M.Phil are excluded from the written examination. The students who get qualified for pursuing the doctorial programme have to make a presentation on the projected topic of research on the date that has been specified by the university.
