Exam Pattern and Application Process for BIS Recruitment 2013

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has invited applications for different job profiles like– Assistant, Technical Assistant (Lab), Lower Division Clerk, and Stenographer. There will be a total of 120 questions for 120 marks. Time allotted for completion is 2 hours. Topics like General intelligence, Numerical Aptitude, Clerical Aptitude and English Ability are asked for the entrance test. For Junior Translator (Hindi) post, both objective and descriptive questions will be included. For Technical Assistant (Lab) post, questions will be mainly from specific subject stream apart from other aptitude based questions.

Exam Pattern for different posts in BIS recruitment

There will be objective and descriptive model questions for the entrance test. The pattern of the entrance test is as follows

  • Time duration – 120 minutes
  • Total number of questions – 120 questions
  • Total marks — 120

Assistant

The syllabus of this exam includes questions from the following topics –

  • Numerical Aptitude
  • General Intelligence
  • English language
  • Clerical Aptitude

Junior Translator (Hindi)

The pattern of the written exam for this post includes both objective and descriptive type questions –

Objective questions are based on following topics –

  • General English
  • General Hindi
  • Vocabulary
  • Official Language (Rajbhasha)

Descriptive questions will be based on English or Hindi translation and vice versa. 

Technical Assistant (Lab)

The written exam for this post include questions from the following subject areas –

  • English language
  • General Intelligence
  • Clerical Aptitude
  • Quantitative Aptitude

Specific subject related questions (From streams like Microbiology, Chemical, Mechanical and Electrical) are also asked for the test.

Stenographer

Questions will be asked  from the following topics–

  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • English Language and Comprehension
  • General Intelligence
  • Clerical Aptitude

Lower Division Clerk

The syllabus of the written exam comprise of questions related to specific subject areas like –

  • Clerical Aptitude
  • English Language
  • Numerical Aptitude
  • General Intelligence

Junior Stenographer

The written exam will include questions from following subject areas such as –

  • English Language and Comprehension
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Clerical Aptitude
  • General Intelligence

Candidates will get a minus mark of 0.25 for every wrong answer. It is compulsory for candidates to report to the examination hall at least 30 minutes before the commencement of exam. Based on the number of applications received in for a specific post, the time schedule of the written exam will vary.

Candidates, who qualify written examination, will be selected for a Skill test/Personal Interview. A computer based skill test will be organized for those candidates who have applied for posts like Stenographer, Lower Division Clerk and Junior Stenographer. The final selection lists of candidates will depend on their performance in both skill test and Personal interview.
