Forest Ranger - How to become a Forest Ranger?
Forest Rangers are officers who are in charge of protecting, safeguarding and supervising a segment of a public jungle so as to keep the public safe from threats within the woodland and keeping the forest resources unscathed from people who may try to annihilate and devastate them. These professionals carry out patrolling the woodlands on a daily basis so as to ensure that the forest areas are protected. It is the prime duty of a forest ranger to act during emergencies like wild fires and natural calamities. It involves utmost dedication to the natural environment where they serve.
Qualifying Exam
In order to become a forest ranger in India, aspirants have to clear the Forest Rangers’ exam conducted by the State Public Service Commission. Professionals who have cleared the test may have to attend a personal interview subsequently. Aspirants who clear all these formalities can expect employments as Forest Rangers. Only those who love outdoors and enjoy the life in a forest can enjoy the profession. Forest Rangers’ can expect salaries of around Rs. 12000/- per month during the initial days. Their pay scale may go up with experience in the relevant fields.
Who is eligible to apply?
The pre-requisite condition to apply for the Forest Rangers’ test is a graduation in Forestry, Natural Resource Management or related fields. They should have completed the course in an acknowledged University. Applicants should be Indian Nationals. They should not exceed 30 years of age. SC/ST and PWD aspirants have 5 years relaxation in age.

Skills required for a Forest Ranger
In addition to the technical knowledge, aspirants require some special skills. They should have swift thinking capability so as to act upon a crisis. Managerial skills are also required for these professionals. As they may have to carry guns as part of their job, Forest Rangers should be familiar with using weapons.
