Is Acturial science a good option after 12th standard with more than 85% in Maths?
i am waiting for my 10+2 result and am quite sure about getting more than 85% in maths should i opt for acturial science??

Eligibility
Actuarial Society of India (ASI), Mumbai, is the chief body engaged in education in actuarial science. A person is eligible to be considered for admission as student member if he/she satisfies one of the following five conditions: 1) Those who have passed 10+2(H.S.C) or equivalent a) with at least 85% in Mathematics/Statistics, b) with recommendations from two Fellow Members of the society, c) Having English as the medium of instruction in +2 or equivalent level. 2) Graduate or Post Graduate with subjects like Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, MBA (Finance) and alike. Besides a person would also be eligible provided; . The total marks secured in the subjects coming under the classification of Mathematical Sciences, taken together in all the years of the degree course are not less than 55%. ii. The content of Mathematical Sciences subjects in all the years of the course taken together is not less than 50% of the total content. This is measured by the ratio which the maximum marks allotted to Mathematical Science subjects in all the years of the course bears to the total maximum marks allotted to all subjects included in the examination of the entire course excluding languages. iii.The medium of instruction at the Graduate/Post Graduate level has been English. 3) Fully qualified members of professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India and Certified Institute of Financial Analysts of India and Fellow of Insurance Institute of India (Passing with subjects 81-Mathematical Basis of Insurance and 82-Statistics) as also other qualified persons like MBA to be considered on case to case basis. 4) All continuing students of Institutes. 5) Faculty of Actuaries, UK, Society of Actuaries, USA, Casualty Actuarial Society, USA and Institute of Actuaries of Australia. Pay Package For an actuary, sky is the limit as far as salary and other benefits are concerned. This is one of the most rewarding careers in the insurance sector. Here, entry level salary is expected to be somewhere around Rs. 8 lakh per annum. For the underwriters it is around Rs. 6 lakh per annum. Skills and attributes Besides having a natural problem solving ability, aspirants desiring to make a name in Actuarial science must also be equipped with the following traits: Skill to see situation from different angles. Ability of lateral thinking i.e., ability to relate two different concepts and ideas together to facilitate business growth. The job involves a lot of number of crunching, so one needs to have a strong bent for maths and statistics. traditionally actuaries have worked in the insurance, pensions and investment industries but now they are needed everywhere- from project management to health care. Actuaries are rated as one of the top four professions with best paid salary in the coming years. So, future is bright if you choose to make it as a career.
Actuaries provide services in investment, financial, insurance, pensions & project management. But, you should have atleast scored 85 marks in 10th & 12th to get into this field. You must be remarkably good with the maths subject. Courses in Actuary: IIT, Mumbai offers 3 year BA on Actuarial Science Kalyani University, West Bengal offers Post graduate degree in this field You can give an entrance exam held by the Actuarial Society of India (http://www.actuariesindia.org/) and clearing the exam you will be eligible to study the subject. The exam is held twice a year- in the month of May and October. The exam consist of four stages: 1. Core Technical Stage 2. Core Application Stage 3. Specialist Technical Stage 4. Specialist Application Stage By clearing this exam you will have a very bright future. As a trainee in India student gets a stipend of approximately Rs. 50,000 per month. |

I have scored 89 in maths this year in 12th. I want to pursue B.Tech and with that Acturial science... So would it be fine to do both the things together.. as i have heard that acturial science is as tough as CA ?

which is best course in your that i should do C.A. or Acturial Science Course which is more beneficial in life. I have secured 96% marks in Mathematics and overal 84.2% marks. I have also appeared in C.A.-CPT on 19.06.2011 expected to clear the same.

YES definitely you can. U need to have maths or statistics to apply for the same. check with actuarial science's website for authentic information. actuarial has nothing to do with science.

heyya...mah cgpa was 8.8 in class 10th n in 12th I got onlyyyy 63.5%...and in maths I got only 55marks from science side....I was vry bad with physics soh (not an excuse) bt gave all mah tym to physics to get passed..n finally scored 70marks bt cud not do well in others...n I started off wid CA n hav mah exam on 16th june...bt havin' problem wid accounts...also I had too much of interest in maths...N can grow it again...mah question is that whether I can go for ACTUARIAL SCIENCE...
PLEASE HELP... I really want to do it... PLEASE REPLY... Mah name is Megha.. |
