The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by Union Public Service Commission and as per its guidelines, no matter how much obtained in your bachelors degree examination, you have got to qualify your master degree examination with a minimum of 55% marks provided you belong to General or OBC Category. Since you have scored 50% marks in your post graduate program, you will be considered eligible to take the National Eligibility Test only if you belong to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe.

If you find yourself eligible as per the aforementioned criteria, you will have to take the National Eligibility Test in Mathematics, since you have pursued your masters degree program in Mathematics. The National Eligibility Test for Mathematical Sciences is conducted jointly by University Grant Commission and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research.

Master’s degree in any stream is the qualification required for NET. The qualification must be obtained with a minimum of 55% marks. SC/ST candidates need to have a minimum of 50% marks. You can apply if you belong to such a category. The test is conducted by UGC in the months of June and December.
