You can very well opt for the marine Engineering after your diploma in the mechanical engineering since it is one of the basic qualification to join the same but also the cutoff if you opt for a best institute for the marine engineering. As of now, in chennai Vel's University is one of the best institute in Chennai along with the Institute of Maritime Studies in chennai, which is a governmental institute with governmental place assistance.

hi i knw about not in detail but i wanna to tell u that u have to join it via mechanical diploma there are few institutes names
chennai school of ship & manage ment, marine engg institutes -dmet,& one more institutes which got the selection wen u scored in iit 160marks ok that is t.s chankaya

Yes you may get admission to direct second year into marine engineering. There are many entrance test for that like Manipal UGET,Thapar,LEET and many more.

After you clear this test you may opt for a seat of Marine engineering. There may be parallel admission on that basis. Its like a computer science students can take admission in electronics too!

So dont worry work hard for the entrance test. You may even answer IIT JEE and AIEEE after your diploma and then apply for IITs and NITs in marine engineering. That would be better

you need to take special lateral entry tests:
you have to go through their entrances and with you masters marks which should be above 60%,you can vie for admission.
they take a interview too.

you can take admission in the b.tech course after the diploma,but you have to give the entrance exam of the engineering and after getting qualified you can take admission.

I am appear in 3'rd year in diploma engineering course. My tread is Computer science & Technology. I passed XII in 2008 with 56% and passed marks X in 2006 with 65% marks.
