For any Indian whether residing or non-residing i.e NRI, if you want a job as a scientist or a researcher then you must have done a PhD.
If you want a job as the engineer anything from a payload specialist to construction specialist, you must have done BE or B.Tech from a recognized institute/university from India or abroad.
As far as India is concerned if the college is UGC listed then it is considered as recognized along with AICTE certification for technical colleges.
For colleges abroad you must bring along with you a certificate of approval from the committee in charge as to the sanctioning of your college/university and the degree you are undertaking.
The branch of engineering is not specific for applying for jobs as there are jobs for all types of engineers but if you want to be an astronaut then you must necessarily have done mechanical engineering or aeronautical engineering which is further preferred.
