Sir , it based on the percentile you got ) I.e, combination of btech % + gate marks ).
-> For getting seat in IIT/ NIT , one must secure rank below 300. -> It depends on caste also a) if you are a OC candidate you must secure rank below 100. b) If you are BC category then you must Secure below 300. c ) For SC/ST 's it is in between 740-1000. |

Re: Expected marks required in GATE 2016 for admission in IIT and NIT?
You need to get at least 55+ marks out of 100 in GATE to get admission in " NIT " . And coming to IIT's you must have 60+ marks in GATE.
This may vary from year to year based on the competition and also there is a marks relaxation for the reserved candidates. |

Re: Expected marks required in GATE 2016 for admission in IIT and NIT?
GATE stands for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Indian Institute of Technology conducts this entrance exam for master's degree in technology course.
Candidates who have done bachelor's degree in technology or engineering or final year of this course can apply for the exam. The online application for GATE 2016 is going on the official website. GATE rank also serves as an important criteria for selection in Public Sector Undertakings. The cut off marks for admission in IIT and NIT for candidates of SC/ST category is different for different year and every year cut off marks for every year changes. As you belong to SC category, the qualifying marks will be between 20-30 marks and you should try to score between 50-60 marks so that you can get chance for admission in IIT and NIT. |

Re: Expected marks required in GATE 2016 for admission in IIT and NIT?
Hi friend,
GATE application forms were started from 1st of September and deadline is 30th of September. I want to tell that for taking admissions to IIT colleges according to previous cutoff marks and by considering mechanical branch you should have mminimum score 70 out of 100. So you require very hard work from your present year. Best of luck. |

Re: Expected marks required in GATE 2016 for admission in IIT and NIT?
If we go by previous year cut off marks for SC category then you must have a GATE score of above 300 to have chance of getting admission in a NIT/IIT.
Also, note that in some not so popular streams the cut off marks is very low. Hence, it will depend on the kind of stream in which you want admission in 2016. |

Re: Expected marks required in GATE 2016 for admission in IIT and NIT?
GATE stands for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. In the recent scenario the importance of GATE exam has increased very much. Earlier the GATE score was just used to take admission in master of technology course in different engineering colleges of India.
But in recent years, almost 90% of the Public Sector Undertakings have started to take candidates on the basis of GATE scorecard and rank. So the cut off marks for different category candidates have gone high. As you have mentioned that you belong to the SC category, as per previous year marks trends, you must score above marks in your stream to qualify the GATE exam. For admission in NITs or IITs, expected marks are above 40 marks. If you manage to score around 40-50 marks in GATE being a SC category, you will have good chance of getting admission. This is just a indicative marks, actual marks may change. |
