The course of the B.Tech remains the same, whether you apply after 12th or after completing diploma in Engineering. However the procedure of admission do change if you are a diploma holder.
After completing 12th with PCM candidates are required to appear for entrance exams such as: ISEET AIEEE UPSEE BITSAT IIT-JEE But these exams becomes irrelevant if you want admission after diploma. The diploma students take lateral entry admission into engineering course. Which means that diploma students are given entry into the second year of B.Tech. The lateral entry admission in not possible through entrance exams mentioned above. To start with IIT and NIT don't accept diploma candidates. While rest of the entrance exams mentioned above are only for the candidate who have completed 12th. While IITs and NITs may not offer admission to diploma students, but rest of the colleges do. Most colleges reserve some seats for the diploma students to take admission through lateral entry. Generally around 10 percent of the total seats are reserved for the diploma students by the engineering college. For admission you will have to appear for LEET entrance exam. LEET stands for Lateral Entry Engineering Test. This exam is specifically for the admission through lateral entry. Several colleges participates in this exam. You need minimum of 50 percent marks in diploma to appear for the Lateral Entry Engineering Test. I should tell you that not every college accepts LEET entrance exam. Some prefer to conduct their own written test for admission. While there are some colleges that also offer admission on merit. |
