How can I prepare for engineering service exam? I have scored 50% marks
i want to prepare for engineering service exam,but my career is 50% and 1 year gap also,,is it ok for me to try this or choose other line. will it affect my interview.

You can try for ESE exam conducted by UPSC. Gap in studies is not going to affect your eligibility.The exam covers topics on general aptitude test, and engineering. Preparation for the exam can be started after collecting exam pattern and detailed exam syllabus. Reference books are different for different subjects. The exm is conducted in subjects of civil/mechanical/electronics/electrical engineering.
