You will be eligible to appear this exam when you are in the fourth year. So need to start preparing immediately. You must begin with understanding the structure of this exam. Note down all the areas you need to cover. Make a timetable on this basis. Also do join a training institute if required.

Third year is an ideal time for a B.E. or B.Tech. student for start preparing for IES exam.

The best way to prepare for the exam is to prepare it under the guidance of some one who is professional and have experience. It takes a lot to prepare for the exam because the competition is very tough and so is the exam. Students prepare very hard for it.

There are many private coaching institutes which gives classes for specially this exam. Many students attend these coaching classes. The teachers there are very well experienced. They will lead you in the right direction to prepare for the exam and qualify it.
