IES preparation requires hard work mainly Solving problems of 40 marks Each & Many Objective Questions from the thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Turbomachinary (as per syllabus given by upsc)

for Further Details Please visit Upsc Website & Download the syllabus & go through the syllabus in depth, mainly solving the problems because IES consist of 5 objective papers with negative marking & two Conventional papers consisting of 400 marks here no negative marks.
the only one way to score the IES is in Conventional papers so prepare well.
