On the other hand if you take up civil and do well in it, you'll be in a better position. So dont judge the choice of course by the job opportunities only, also take into account your interests and then make a choice.

Quite a few PSUs have invited applications from GATE qualified candidates for the position of Graduate Engineer Trainee (irrespective of the stream of study). CONCOR, BHEL, BEL, SAIL, etc are some of the firms where you can find such kind of jobs. Civil Engineers can join to the position of Assistant Engineer in Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, and eligible candidate are offered with salary package of Rs 20280/- per month. Computer science graduates can lot of career opportunities with firms like Infosys, Wipro, and TCS. Public sector job opportunities for civil engineers are slightly higher than CSE graduates.

As a civil engineer you have the option of opting for a government job or a private sector companies include LnT Ultratech etc.
It is not necessary that you work in only a construction company you may also work in a surveying department or irrigation department or even water,health and sanitary department.
You may even go ahead and become a geologists.
There is always an option of becoming a lecturer in the subject of your interest.

There are going to be a lot of jobs and a lot of projects in India alone because of the government's decision on making a few smart cities.
