Default Re: Is Maharashtra PET merged with ISEET this year?

Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test or ISEET is the new proposed common entrance exam for admission in Engineering proposed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development. This exam is all set to replace AIEEE and IIT-JEE entrance exam from next year onwards.

What this means is that from 2013, if you want admission in IIT, then you must appear for the ISEET entrance exam. The Ministry of Human Resources and Development wants to have a single entrance exam in the country for Engineering admission.

The idea is One nation, One exam. However this has not gone too well with the state governments. Some states have agreed to replace ISEET with their respective entrance exams but others are not keen to do so.

Earlier even IITs showed some dissent and refused to accept the ISEET entrance exam but later all the IITs agreed to go with ISEET entrance exam. But as far the states are concerned, there are some issues which needs to be resolved.

Various states have agreed to join ISEET but only after couple of years. While still some states are not interested in doing so. However Maharashtra is one state which has agreed to join ISSET that too from 2013.

What this means is that from 2013, Maharashtra will not conduct Maha-CET entrance exam. It would get replaced by the ISEET entrance exam. To make it simple, Maha-CET has been scrapped by the state government.

The Maharashtra govt has already decided upon the admission procedure for the ISEET. Although Ministry of Human Resources and Development has set the procedure recommending weightage breakup of 40:60 for class 12th marks and ISEET score, the state governments are welcomed to decide their own procedure.

The Maharashtra government will give 50 percent weightage to the marks scored by candidate in 12th standard of all English and non-English schools across the state. While remaining 50 percent weightage will be given to ISEET score. Therefore if you want admission in engineering college in Maharashtra then you will have to appear for the ISEET entrance exam instead of Maha-CET.

Maha-PET is the exam for PhD admission. Therefore it can not be merged with ISEET since ISEET is only conducted for admission in B.Tech.

Eligibility

1. You must complete 12th from a recognized board with PCM as subjects.

2. Minimum of 40 percent marks in 12th board.

Exam Pattern

There will be two papers in the ISEET entrance exam:

1) ISEET Main

2) ISEET Advance
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
