dear guest,
to be an introvert is not a criteria to pass the exam but to possess a leadership quality you must well behaved and a good command on your language & no doubt a strong I.Q level.Try to adopt those if anyone is missing from your character.
To be good in Essays, you should write and explain all the explainatory part of the sample paper. If possible ,you should write various articles in the newspapers & take part in many writing competitions.
maths is no doubt a scoring subject.
Yes, physics & electronics also is a good combination & available also.
yes, electronics is available for optional.

For the Civil Services Main exam selecting the correct elective subjects is the key to success. Nearly everyone often choose their core area of study as the first optional paper. The second optional paper will consume nearly all of your preparation time. Make sure to select a subject that is interesting and comfortable to handle. Also have an aptitude towards that discipline which makes it further easy to learn. IAS aspirants can chose different optional subjects according to their knowledge base. As an engineering student you can choose from the following for both exams. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Statistics.

Hello Friend,
For UPSC Civil Services Exam you will have to choose two optional subjects and the list subjects are available at www.upsc.gov.in.
For your information i would like to tell you that electronics, physics and mathematics are available for optional subjects for mains exam.
you can choose any two of them. Yes mathematics is a scoring subject in IAS exam. Ypu can choose physics and electronics also.
For mastering in essays, read newspaper and magazines and try to write articles in newspapers and magazines and try to write on any topic in which you are interested or any current topic going on.
If you will labour hard in studies and most important thing is that be honest with your studies.
Good Luck.

It depends on your Interest..

according to me as an analyser..

if you're an intelegent person then go with Psychology and Public Administration.

if you're an above average person then go with Sociology and public administration..

I termed here Intelligent and above average brains because..

psychology is not that easy to understand

you need to have lot of interest regarding that subject

and good IQ

and peak level grasping power..

totally you should be sharp..

if you're so then go with it

orelse don't take risk...

all the best

make a wise decision..

UPSC provides a range of optionals so as to include all subjects of different fields.

1)Psychology
2) Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
3) Public Administration
4) Agriculture
5) Sociology
6) Botany
7) Chemistry
8) Geology
9) Electrical Engineering
10) Civil Engineering
11) Economics
12) Commerce and Accountancy
13) History
14) Geography
15) Physics
16) Medical Science
17) Law
18) Mathematics
19) Mechanical Engineering
20) Philosophy
21) Zoology
22) Political Science
23) Statistics

Selection of Optionals
Selection mostly depends on your interest & subjects which you have studied in graduation.
But its better to choose one which relates to administration or politics.
In language subjects , you only needs to pass them , as they are not considered for evaluation.

Default Re: Optional subjects in IAS Exam

Hello sir, I have completed my postgraduation in economics from panjab university and i am planning to prepare for ias. People are saying that economics is very tough subject and should not be chosen for mains. I am confused what should i do now. Should i take economics as one of my optional or start preparing a new subject. I have already chosen public administration as my second optional
