I am a 10+2 student (result Awaiting).
M Fat .
So can i join merchant navy.
And please do tell me about other phsical requirements i need to possess.

Physical Eligibility For joining Merchant navy as Deck Cadet are as follows: -

A candidate should be physically and mentally fit.

1. Eye Sight = 6/6,

2. Height = 167 cms,

3. Weight = 50 Kg

4. Chest = 77 cm (Normal) / 82 cm (Expanding)

physical requirements:-


-all the candidates who apply for the degree course should be physically and mentally fit. The navigators are required to have a perfect eyesight, though marine engineers can wear spectacles for eyesight up to plus/ minus 2.5. Colour blind people need not apply.


-the candidate must be immune to sea sickness. You should be medically fit as per the standards set by the merchant shipping medical examination rules and eye sight 6/6 in each eye with visual aids..

my good friend coming in merchant navy means coming in hell, Don't go on salary what a seaman's (Deck officer's, marine engineers or crew) get's they gets only after when they get experience, and my friend's there r none of the company which takes fresher. U will get experience when u will get job ,and there r no jobs for freshers in merchant navy believe me as am facing same problem. and there r lots of harassment of senior which u have to bare. my best advised for you all to never think of merchant navy its a worst career no respect full of headache
there is nothing about adventure here trust me if u will come here u will waste your life for nothing. i am a sailor
