AMIE stands for Associated Member of Institution of Engineers. This is having its headquarters at Kolkata.

It admits members at various levels: Technician, Senior Technician, Associate, Member, Fellow, Chartered, etc.

This is the best option for students who have already had some degree, joined some engg concern and want to get a degree equivalent to BE.

AMIE is recognized as equivalent to BE in all government recruitments. UGC, IIM and IIT have also recognized AMIE as equivalent to BE for the purpose of pursuing PG courses.

To get AMIE, you have to pass Section A and Section B and have 5 years experience in a responsible position.

In Section A, the following subjects (of common interest to engg discipline) a re covered:

Basic Science
Engg Science
Social Science
Communication

Knowledge of these subjects makes the student fit to pursue engg studies.

In Section B, the IEI specializes the students in 15 disciplines (like Civil, Electical, etc). Engg Management is a common subject in Section B. Apart from this, there are five papers and three optionals for each discipline. The syllabus is dynamically structured. A Project Work is also to be executed under a Guide.

Normally, exams are conducted twice a year, Summer and Winter. The Institute also publishes a series of periodic journals in different disciplines, which are of immense use to student and serving members.

According to the latest bye-laws, the candidate should be at least 26 years of age (after having completed Sections A and B and the work experience) while applying for membership.

How to Apply?

The application form and information booklet are published in the official website of AMIE Institution. The candidates can download the application form from the website and use it. The candidates can procure the application form by post. This is obtained by sending a request letter to the official address of the institution. A demand draft or cheque of Rs.2000/- from any nationalized bank should be enclosed with the letter. As a result the candidates can received the application form by post.


Fees structure for AMIE degree course in India are following :-

Total Fees structure of AMIE degree course is 4800/- Rs.

Membership pack 600/- for Nepal and India.

2200/- FOR Study material and including all books or individual subjects.

500/- for other charges

Important Dates (Tentative)
Date of Winter Exam will be on: Second Week of December, 2012
Date of the Summer Exam will be on: 2 to 8 June, 2012

Eligibility for AMIE:
1. Those candidates can apply for AMIE entrance exam who passed bachelor degree with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

2. Final examination of 10 + 2 +3 system with English, chemistry, Physics and Mathematics conducted by any state board/ other boards/ universities.

3. Candidates who pass in English is mandatory and aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics should be at least 45%.
