I am pursuing BE degree in Mechanical Engineering and am in %th Semister at present I want to join Indian Air Force as an engineer Please tell me the procedure and the job oppurtunites in this feild

After the completion of your engineering you can join Indian Air force as an officer in the Technical branch. You can apply for the Indian Air force through Air force common admission test. This examination is conducted by the Indian Air force twice in a year.

The eligibility criteria required for the Air force common admission test examination is given below:

Education Qualification
For the Technical branch candidate should have a degree in engineering from the recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks.
Those appeared in the final year examination are also eligible to apply for the flying branch in Indian Air force.

Also candidates having current back log are not eligible to apply for the examination.


Age Limit
For the Technical branch in Indian Air force candidate age should be between
18 to 28 years.

yes, you can join in technical branch in Indian Air force, after completion of engineering through UES exam.

Eligibility for UES exam:-

1.Candidate must have complete the graduation in Engineering field.

2.Candidate must have secure 60% aggregate through out the graduation.

3.The age should be in between 18-28 years..

I'am sorry to say that a diploma holder or pass out cannot join the Indian air force directly,since there no entrance exams for a candidate with educational qualification criteria for diploma program.Either you have to write the Combined defense service exam [CDSE] conducted by the Union public service commission respectively.Once you complete your graduation there are scopes for you to join different divisions of air force namely,

*Flying branch
*Technical branch.
*Ground duty branch

Flying branch:

*You must write the CDSE exam for joining this branch.
*Men joining through this mode will be granted with a permanent commission
*You must be Indian citizen
*Must be unmarried
*Aged between 19-23 years of age
*It is only applicable for Men
*Educational qualification is a candidate must be a graduate in any discipline,B.E/B.Tech with 10+2 in Physics and mathematics.Final year students can also apply provided there should be no backlogs
*No percentage bar for CDSE.

Also if you hold a NCC "c" certificate in "b" grade exam you can enroll through NCC SPECIAL ENTRY SCHEME.

There is an alternate option for you as you can join as Flying pilot[short service commission].You must be a graduate with 60% aggregate in any discipline.must be aged between 19-25 years.Upper limit for age is 25 years.

Technical branch:

*You can join as AERONAUTICAL ENGINEER[ELECTRONICS AND MECHANICAL STREAM]
*You can join through Direct entry scheme or University scheme.
*Must be aged between 18-28 years,must be unmarried.
*This is applicable for both MEN AND WOMEN.
*Educational qualification of 60% aggregate in 4 years of graduate education.
*For UES you must be a pre-final year student with 60% aggregate with no current backlogs.
