Hello, I ve just cleared last year Of BHMS and I m.thinking about PG,particularly MD in psychiatry in 2016. So I want to know about scope in this department.

# Psychiatry is the branch of medical science which deals with the abnormality or disorder with respect to mental, emotional and behaviour of human being.

# A psychiatrist has to diagnose the root cause of mental illness of the patient and adopt the integrated treatment comprising both counselling as well as medicine.

# Specialization in psychiatry is basically the MD course in psychiatry i.e. Doctor of Medicine.

# Apart from, one can also go for pursuing Diploma in Psychiatry (DPM).

# Duration of courses:

* 3 years for Doctor in Medicine (MD)
* 2 years for Diploma in Psychiatry (DPM)

# Eligibility criteria required:

* Must have completed MBBS degree.'
* Must have completed one year compulsory internship.

# Job prospects or areas where one can get job are:

* Government Hospitals
* Mental Hospitals
* Rehabilitation Centres
* Nursing Homes
* Polyclinics
* Research Institutes
* Medical Colleges
* Counsellor in school/colleges etc.
* Can go for private practice in their own clinic.
* Can go for teaching profession as Lecturer/Professor in medical colleges.
