The division of medicine that is concerned with the examination as well as treatment of the human mind is called as Psychiatry. A physician who has a specialization in psychiatry and has a certification to treat mental disorders in called as a Psychiatrist.

Qualifying Exam

There are several colleges as well as universities in our country that provide courses in psychiatry. Students who seek to become psychiatrists will be required to write an entrance exam to gain admission into those courses. Some of the important entrance exams available for psychiatry in India are The Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) entrance exam, the Indian Institute of Technology - Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) and the Diploma of National Board (DNB) Exam. In addition to this, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) as well as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) also carry out entrance exams in psychiatry. Some other exams that are worth mentioning are the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) Entrance Exam and the All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AIIPMR) Entrance Exam.

Who is eligible to apply?

For one to become a psychiatrist, the candidate should go to the medical school and obtain a Doctor of Medicine degree after the completion of the MBBS. To turn into a qualified psychiatrist, it is possible for a person to obtain a Diploma in Psychiatric medicine from an acknowledged academic institution too.

How to prepare for exam and interview?
