Re: Which stream should I opt after completing 12th Arts so as to opt for IAS?
Hello friend,
If you have studied science stream in your +2, following the same would be beneficial. As far as IAS is concerned, there is no hard core rule for any particular stream but the syllabus of the examination is definitely inclined towards the arts stream. There will be two written examination- Civil Service Aptitude Test and Main Exam The Civil Service Aptitude Test comprises of two compulsory papers. Paper 1 Current events of national and international importance History of India and Indian national movement Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc. Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc. General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change General science. Paper 2 Comprehension Interpersonal skills including communication skills Logical reasoning and analytical ability Decision making and problem solving General mental ability Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level) English language comprehension skills (Class X level) The Main exam comprises of the following Papers. Compulsary subjects - One Indian language, English, Essay and General studies. Following are the optional subject from which you can select any two subjects Agriculture Mathematics, Animal Husbandry & Vetinary Science, Mechanical Engineering Botany, Medical Science, Chemistry, Philosophy, Civil Engineering, Physics, Commerce,Political Science ,Economics ,Psychology Electrical Engineering Public Administration, Geography, Sociology, Geology, Statistics, Indian,History, Zoology,Law. You can not select the following combination of subjects as optional papers: Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration Commerce and Management Anthropology and Sociology Maths and Statistics Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Management and Public Administration Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science Any two branches of engineering Now, as you can see that the syllabus is mostly based on arts stream and a candidate from other stream will have to work on this stream to crack the exam. But pursuing Bachelors degree in arts after +2 with science is not advisable. If you can work hard and in a systematic manner, you will be able to crack the exam, no mater which stream you belong to. For better results, you must join coaching classes, study updated books, articles and prepare as per the syllabus. |

Re: Which stream should I opt after completing 12th Arts so as to opt for IAS?
After Completing 12th there is no need of particular selection of course
you can do the degree as you wish Regarding selections of optionals you should give the max importance to your interest because you have to spend a lot of time in studying your selected subjects if you don't have interest in what you have selected then it will become mere waste in ..you will be suffered with boredom so don't listen anyone's suggestion go through the syllabus and topics of each and every optional select the subject in which you are most attracted and have a 80% interested topics in the syllabus this is how you have to select the optionals this should be your target and you have to rock the preparation time interestingly not boringly so if you are interested then select that if every one says even it is the toughest one .. this is all the opinion of my friends who are preparing for the same Take the guidance of successful and unsuccessful candidates Regards ~aditya~ |

Re: Which stream should I opt after completing 12th Arts so as to opt for IAS?
You can choose any of the subject which you are interested at your graduation level.
Because the minimum academic qualification required for IAS exam is graduation in any of the discipline. In addition you should be in the age group of 21-30 years. So I would suggest you to join the graduation in what ever stream you are interested and try to achieve good percentage of marks. Simultaneously, allocate some of your time to prepare general awareness and aptitude which are part of CSAT exam. CSAT followed by Main examination and interview is the selection process for IAS exam. For updated information on IAS, you can visit the official website of UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) Here it is, http://www.upsc.gov.in/ |

Re: Which stream should I opt after completing 12th Arts so as to opt for IAS?
After 12th there is no specific subject to purse in order to become an IAS Officer.
You have completed 12th with Science stream, so you can opt any stream whether it is technical or general stream or any specialisation stream, on which you are comfortable, you can purse to obtain a Graduation Degree. IAS - Indian Administrative Service, to become an IAS officer one has to crack Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year. The selection is through two stage of written exam followed by personal interview. During 1st stage the eligible candidate applying for Civil Service is called for a Preliminary exam also called as CSAT(Civil Service Aptitude Test). In the 2nd stage, the candidate selected out of the CSAT exam is called for the Civil Service Main Exam. In the final stage, the candidate selected out of Main Exam is called for a personal interview. For more information you may log on to http://www.upsc.gov.in |

There is no particular restriction to select a stream to go for IAS exam; All you need to have is a Degree from a recognized university. If you are willing to go for Engineering i will suggest you to go for CIVIL ENGG Or MECHANICAL ENGG or ELECTRICAL ENGG because these streams are being offered as OPTIONAL subjects by the upsc . If you chose any one of the streams,it certainly helps you through your CIVIL SERVICES exam. All the best. |

Re: Which stream should I opt after completing 12th Arts so as to opt for IAS?
You are free to choose the stream. There is no need to pic Arts stream. You should not pick it anyway since you are science stream student. I would recommend pursuing B.Tech, however only if you are interested.
As far as the criteria for Indian Administrative Service is concerned, it only says graduation degree. There is no particular restriction. You are free to choose any course whether its BA, B.Com, B.Sc, B.Tech, BBA, BCA etc. Just keep in mind that the chances of selection in IAS are very low for each candidate. There are lakhs of students who apply for IAS where only 300 odd are selected every year. The best thing to do would be to select a course in which you would like to make career. IAS Eligibility 1. The applying candidate should be a Indian citizen. 2. At least graduation degree in any discipline. 3. There is no percentage criteria. 4. Age limit is 21 to 30 years for IAS. 5. Upto 3 years relaxation for OBC. 6. There is 5 years relaxation for SC/ST. Exam Pattern 1) Preliminary Exam 2) Main Exam 3) Interview |
