UPSC Exams after MBA
I am a B.E(MECHANICAL) 2year student. I wish to do M.B.A from any of the reputed institute of our country after completion of my graduation. At the same time i have equal interest in appearing for civilservices and and serving the government. I am unable to decide which to opt. Is the idea of appearing for civilservices after pursuing M.B.A suggestable? Please give me some guidance regarding my career choices.

dear divya
firstly you have to focus on what you want to do. Actually both are good option but you have to focus your mind as par your ability. you have alot of time to think about that. You can also go for UPSE after MBA but this will create some humilation in your studies for UPSE exam and interview.I prefer you to go in MBA Rest is on you. Good luck for your Bright Future in God's name. |

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
Dear
Since Management is not available as an optional subjet in prelims. But one can take this as one of the optionals in Mains.I've heard about people, who cracked Civil Services after passing out M.B.A from IIMs. Every year a good no of students qualify Civil Services by taking Management as one of their optionals |

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
dear freind
I think you are eligible for UPSC exams, because for this exams you should be a graduate degree holder from a UGC approved University. As per my understanding you can be eligible if your University is approved under UGC to be Deemed University. So, dont worry, you are eligible to appear in UPSC exams. So, prepare well for this exams and keep hard work from now. Only then you will get a sucess in the exams of UPSC. So, go for this government exams and you will definately get sucess. |

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
Hello friend,
If u are really interested in Civil service , then anyway , MBA will surely help, bcoz it will broaden your knowledge sphere and your G>K> will also improve. At this stage u can start from reading newspaper regularly and if possible a weekly magazine , it will improve your general awareness. Rest , u can select ur optionals easily , as u have done management as well as engineering subjects. So, best of luck, start rom today itself. |

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
dear friend
The choice of giving UPSC exam...for serving the country in your own way is really very much appreciated...well most of the civil service exams' qualification required is Min. Graduation...and the age limit is 21-30 years...and you get only 3 attempts to clear the exams..so My suggestion will be...first you concentrate on your MBA...then after that you try for civil service examinations...I think this will be the best idea.. Good luck !! |

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
Hi Divya...
i think its no need to tell you about the eligibility related things.. anyways.. this can be a good option for you....only key point is that you have to smartly set your goals for qualifying upsc exams.. You must be aware that now onwards upsc will take CSAT exam in the preliminary stage comprising of two papers..am telling you this because the exam pattern for this is same as mba apptitude test i.e. reasoning, maths, gen. awareness, english(some what like this..officialy they will declare in decemeber when forms will be out)..so while prepararing for mba u can work it out for upsc too..(only remember make urself more thorough with this in ur mba tenure..dnt leave it .. in upsc main exams you have to opt for two subjects(papers)..i think Public Administration or Management subject will help you a lot in the preparation mode coz the subject content is same as taught in mba subjects ..i guess combination of both these sujects is not allowed...for the second option you have to take some other subjects(see for your self, which ever suits you).. choose subjects in which you have interest and a good base.. mba degree will help you in the interview but you have to prove your self ... ya one advice read a news paper regulary(The Hindu will be the best option).. ..this will help you a lot..make your General Awareness very strong.....also go through all NCERT books(like geography,history,science,polity,economics)..make a good understanding..and yah try improving your writing skills from the very first day ..you know what.. it is this skill which will help u in expressing yourself backed by your knowledge and also scoring good marks in you main exams.. anyways this is just a gist..but its fun when ur into it...just like a game.. with every stage you make a better understanding..just make ur basics strong ..then no one can stop you..and dont listen to anyone once you make up your mind for upsc. and then it will be Divya Vani,IAS... !! good luck !! |

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
If you pursue MBA after your BE it will give you wider option for you career growth. Even though you can still appear all the examination conducted by UPSE and SSC after completing BE. You are qualified to appear in most o the exams conducted by the board with in your stream. MBA will help you for promotion and improvement in your grade if you get employed in the government sector.

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
Dear friend Divya,
It seems you are in a state of double have mind,as you are not able to decide for what to go MBA or civil services. To apply for an UPSC exam graduation is essential. So you can prepare yourself from now onwards and then you go for the UPSC exams.these exams needs lots of dedication and motivation so that you can clear it.As far as MBA is concerned, you can do it in the later stages of your life,if the need arises.wish all the best. |

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
Dear Divya,
Yes you can go for MBA. If you want to do in some reputed colleges like IIM, then you need to crack the CAT exam. Also, it is also possible to write UPSE exam (civil service) after your MBA. UPSE exam is quite tough and you need to prepare very nice and you should be very strong in the basics. I advice you to go for MBA because MBA is very respected and demanded master course in this present scenario. There are lots of scope also. If you complete your MBA (you will not worry as you will be settled with some management work), then you can decide later that you want to go for UPSE or not. So, for now, you give more importance on MBA. This is my suggestion. All the best. |

Re: UPSC Exams after MBA
Yes dear friend these are the good option after the MBA but if you go for these
UPSC services after your graduation then it is more better because for these services the minimum education qualification is graduation which you have already done so if you want to go for these service then there is no need for your MBA just after your graduation you can apply.but if you want to make career in UPSC services as well as private sector then itis good to prepare after the MBA. best of luck |
