Being a Mechanical Engineer, you may get job as a mechanical engineer in the following departments of Government Sector:
Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers.
Central Water Engineering
Central Power Engineering Service
Indian Ordnance Factories Service
Indian Naval Armament Service
Assistant Executive Engineer Group, Ministry of Defense.
Assistant Naval Stores Officer, Grade I in Indian Navy.
Central Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Service
Indian Supply Service
Indian Defence Service of Engineers

To be eligible for the jobs, you may write Engineering Service Exam, conducted by UPSC.
The qualification required to be eligible for the exam, you must hold a degree in engineering, of a recognized university and must be within the age limit of 21-30 years. The maximum age limit is 35 years fro SC/ST category and 33 years for OBC's.

I have the details about your question as you are a mechanical student you have a large opportunities to undertake a govt job .

all you need to do is you should be good at your subject

develop your aptitude levels

increase your logical thinking levels

and improve in all aspects where a employer seeks in his employee

Now coming to your options as a engineering student every engineer wants everybody to call him as an engineer. for this the perfect and first preferred platform is IES entrance

IES : Indian Engineering Service

This exam is conducted by UPSC this exam recruits officers in the range of technincal heads for districts or states as per requirement anyways this is very exiting career to take because all the appreciation will be through the hearts of common people.

Next option is BSNL JTO

Then you have options in ISRO ,DRDO , AIRFORCE ,NAVY ,ARMY etc..,

all these are the govt. jobs available for the student who completed his b.tech or pursuing his last year of B.E

So you opt yours and go with it

If u want to be a govt. Engg. U can give a exam ies, indian enggneering services ,u can give this exam after completing your engg. In this exam several top most posts are given on the basis of ranking.
U can also apply in:

friend,
engineers are taken up in the gov service thru direct recruit or thru entrance exams..

they are posted as junior assistants in many cases..

u r eligible if u pass out with the required percentage from clg, which varies from different departments of the gov.

generally its around, 50-60%

mention ur branch of study for further guidance...

u can go for upsc ies for getting govt. Job in engineering but u can also for ias with engineering subject

I HAVE 50% AGGREGATE AND LAST YEAR IN BE INSTRUMENTATION WITH 60%.
