Re: What is the difference between Petty cash book and cash book?
PETTY CASH BOOK
A petty cash book is a book of vouchers which are prepared each time a disbursement is made from petty cash. The voucher would show the date, amount, recipient, purpose and general ledger account number relating to the expense. The person giving out the petty cash and the person receiving the petty cash would sign the voucher and any supporting documentation (such as receipts) would be attached CASH BOOK Journal in which all cash receipts and payments (including bank deposits and withdrawals) are recorded first, in chronological order, for posting to general ledger. Cash book is regularly reconciled with the bank statements as an internal auditing measure. In larger firms, it is commonly divided into two parts: (1) Cash disbursement journal in which all cash payments (such as accounts payable, operating expenses, petty cash purchases) are recorded, and (2) Cash receipts journal in which all cash receipts (such as accounts receivable, cash sales, sale of assets) are recorded. |

Petty cash book contains daily office expanses like tea, stationary and other small expanses. while cash book is a book in which bank cash transactions are recorded. |

Re: What is the difference between Petty cash book and cash book?
Dear Friend,
Cash Book:Cash book is a subsidiary book, which records the receipts and payment of cash. With the help of cash book cash and bank balance can be checked at my point of time.It is the statement which contain's the total cash information . The information includes "cash in hand & cash at bank" Petty Cash book: A business house makes a number of small payments like telegram, textiles, cartage etc. If all these transactions are recorded in cash book the cash bank may become bulky and the main cashier’s work will also increase therefore usually firms appoint a petty cashier who makes these small payments and keep record of these payments in a separate cash book which is called Petty Cash book. Petty cash book is maintain by company to meet their daily expenditure All the Best |
