The best option to become an engineer or scientist is to pursue B.Tech course and thereafter M.Tech. You also have the option to go for B.Sc and then MSc. It will all depend on the area where you would like to specialise. After completing your Masters you need to clear the CSIR+NET exam. You can also take up a Ph.D in the area that interest you.
